Aneroid Barometer

Aneroid Barometers read barometric pressure like their mercury filled pre-runners. Invented in the mid 19c they use an evacuated “bellows” which is prevented from collapsing by a strong spring. Slight changes in barometric pressure act on this bellows and cause via a mechanical linkage a hand to move. Aneroid barometers (due to no mercury) are very portable and there is no restriction to the size they can be.
