A fine, painted dial, 8 day longcase clock by James Slade of Trowbridge, Wiltshire. The movement striking the hours on a bell. The colourful, well painted dial features Adam and Eve to the arch, both with a moving arm. The figures, together with the tree are remotely mounted against the background that features an array of wild and farm animals, together with the four seasons depicted in the dial corners. Matching finely pierced brass hands and seconds and calendar subsidiaries.
Best quality ‘West Country’ case featuring the finest mahogany veneers to the base and trunk door, ‘Greek Key’ banding and boxwood and ebony stringing. Fluted columns to the hood and ¼ columns to the trunk all featuring brass reeding and fine quality ormolu Corinthian Capitals. The hood door with wavy edge and the top moulding are also typical West Country features and the case is topped off with 3 ball and eagle finials.
