A superb lacquer longcase clock that was survived in remarkably original condition with its original base and caddy, and with only minor restoration. Red faux
Lacquering or ‘Japanning’ is a very beautiful form of longcase clock decoration that became available around the end of the 17th century. The case ground colours were available in red, green, blue, yellow and most commonly, black. Predominantly the clock cases originate from London, and there is a high possibility that provincial clockmakers also bought their cases from London.
